研究概要
In the English Program of Utsunomiya University (EPUU), we are developing courses that target academic skills relevant to students’ academic fields and applicable to the workforce. EPUU is continuing to develop two targeted language programs: English for General Academic Purposes (EGAP) for first-year students and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for second to fourth-year students. These programs not only enhance academic language proficiency and study skills but also cultivate global perspectives and cultural competencies, aiming to shape students into confident communicators and global citizens.
教育・研究活動の紹介
I develop Academic II and III EAP courses designed for 3rd and 4th-year students. In addition, I collaborate with Wollongong University to coordinate an EPUU faculty project that explores the application of cognitive sciences in language teaching and learning. Specifically, our focus is on multimodality within EPUU, investigating how various communication modes can enhance the learning experience. Our research encompasses AI applications, scaffolding activities, video integration, and translanguaging practices.
今後の展望
My research revolves around three key projects. The first involves developing an innovative EGAP teacher training program for Japanese tertiary education. This program addresses the changing landscape of academic English, aiming to enhance teacher pedagogical knowledge and improve student outcomes. Simultaneously, we are designing and piloting an integrated writing supplement for 1st-year program students, focusing on essential academic writing skills. Additionally, within EPUU, we have launched a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) program that seeks to connect students globally through online platforms, fostering cultural exchange and collaborative learning experiences.
